In Heathrow

London Heathrow is the UK's most popular airport. Below is a brief description of what the largest airport on the continent has to offer travelers.

Heathrow Hotel is located in the London Borough of Hillingdon, about 30 miles from central London. The airport is the largest and busiest airport in the country. About 70 million passengers use the airport every year. It serves almost every international destination and all airlines that visit the country. The airport is also very sophisticated, with contemporary features and well-refurbished terminals. The airport has 5 passenger terminals, 1 charging station and 2 runways. The airport was opened in 1929 and served as a military base during the World War. It was initially called London Airport and later called Heathrow Airport. The airport is owned by Heathrow Airport Holding Company.

All five terminals are passenger friendly and serve travelers with great hospitality. Each station has essentials like information counters, currency exchange kiosks, shopping areas, restaurants, paid phones, wireless internet, luggage facilities and taxi rankings. Station 5 is the newest and largest stand-alone station in the country. The station opened in 2008. Stations 3 and 4 were renovated in 2009 and Station 2 is currently under renovation. The project is expected to be completed by 2014. The airport management is also planning to establish a third airport road to handle heavy passenger traffic. To move between stations, free trains and buses are available.

For travel between the airport and the city, travelers can either rent a private taxi or use public transportation. Taxis are available directly outside each station. London's buses, trains and subways can be reached within a short walk from the airport. Apart from that, bus services such as National Express Coach, The Heathrow Express and The Heathrow Connect operate frequently between the airport and the city. The problem with public transportation is that it is less frequent or absent later in the day. In such cases, passengers prefer to use licensed private taxis. While travelers can use the airport lounges for a short period of time, they can also take advantage of first-class hotels near the airport. The Hilton hotel is closest to the airport and provides direct access to Terminal 4. Other hotels near the airport are Thistle London, Sheraton, The Sofitel, The Arora Hotel, Holiday Inn, Park Inn, and Raddison Blu.
